How to Use Ren Raa for Wavy and Curly Hair
A Step-by-Step Styling Guide for Best Results
Starting a new hair routine can feel exciting, and sometimes a little unfamiliar, especially if you are transitioning away from traditional formulas.
This guide walks you through the Ren Raa Ritual step by step, explaining not only what to do, but why each step matters, so you can get the best possible experience from your products and support your natural waves or curls.
There is no single correct way to care for textured hair. Think of this guide as a foundation you can adjust to suit your hair type, density, lifestyle, and preferences.
Step 1: Cleanse Gently and Intentionally
Product: Strength Revival Shampoo
Begin by thoroughly wetting your hair. Apply the shampoo primarily to your scalp, where buildup and excess oils tend to collect.
Using your fingertips, gently massage the scalp in small circular motions. There is no need to scrub aggressively. Let the foam naturally cleanse the lengths of your hair as you rinse.
In most cases, a single cleanse is enough. Double cleansing is only necessary if your scalp feels particularly heavy or coated.
Rinse well and allow the water to fully carry the product through your hair.
Step 2: Condition and Detangle With Care
Product: Strength Velvet Conditioner
Apply the conditioner to mid-lengths and ends, where hair typically needs the most moisture and slip.
While the conditioner is in your hair, gently detangle using your fingers or a wide-tooth comb. Start from the ends and slowly work upward toward the roots to avoid unnecessary tension.
Take your time with this step. Detangling while conditioning helps reduce mechanical stress on the hair.
Rinse thoroughly. Your hair does not need to feel squeaky clean. A lightly conditioned feel is completely normal.
Step 3: Style on Soaking Wet Hair
Product: Pure Form Gel
This step is especially important for defining waves and curls.
Apply styling gel to very wet hair, ideally while still in the shower or immediately after stepping out. Water helps distribute the product evenly and supports curl and wave formation.
How to apply the gel:
Praying hands method
Smooth the gel between your palms, then glide your hands down the lengths of your hair, pressing the hair gently between your hands. This helps coat the hair evenly without disrupting its natural pattern.
Raking method
Use your fingers like a wide comb and gently rake the gel through your hair from roots to ends. This can help distribute product more thoroughly, especially on thicker hair.
After the gel is evenly distributed, gently scrunch your hair upward toward the scalp using your hands. This encourages the hair to form waves or curls.
A helpful indicator that your hair is wet enough is hearing a soft “squish” sound when scrunching. This usually means the product is well distributed.
Step 4: Start With Less Product Than You Think
When it comes to styling products, less is often more, especially at first.
Begin with a smaller amount of gel than you think you need. You can always add more later if desired, once your hair begins to dry.
Finding the right amount of product is part of learning your hair. Some prefer more scrunching, others prefer finger coiling or brush styling. All approaches are valid.
This step requires patience. Small adjustments in technique or product amount can noticeably change the outcome.
Step 5: Dry Slowly and Gently
For many people with waves or curls, diffusing works best when the head is slightly tilted forward or to the side, rather than upright.
Hold the diffuser close to the head and gently place sections of hair into the diffuser bowl, allowing the curls or waves to rest naturally inside. Think of lightly cupping the hair, rather than blowing air directly onto it.
Once a section of hair is placed in the diffuser, pause and hold it there for a short moment before moving on. This allows the hair to begin drying in its natural shape without being disturbed.
Slowly repeat this process across different sections of the head. There is no need to rush. Controlled, minimal movement often gives the most consistent results.
Try to avoid touching or rearranging the hair while it dries, as this can disrupt formation.
Once the hair is fully dry, you may gently scrunch to soften the texture if desired.
If Your Hair Feels Different at First
If this is your first time using products without sulfates, silicones, and drying alcohols, it is completely normal for your hair to feel different during the first few washes.
Many traditional formulas rely on stronger cleansing agents and coating ingredients to create an immediate smooth sensation. Ren Raa is formulated with a different philosophy, focusing on supporting natural texture rather than masking it.
Your hair may need a adjustment period in about 4-8 weeks, and small changes in styling product amount or application can make a noticeable difference in how it feels and behaves.
Changes in water amount, application technique, or product quantity can make a noticeable difference.
Give your hair time, and allow yourself space to experiment.
